12 February 2025: Rest

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28

The constant stream of news, debates, and division can wear us down. It can feel like we are carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders—worrying about the future, the direction of our country, and how to navigate the uncertainty. The emotional toll can be overwhelming, leaving us anxious, restless, and even spiritually drained.

But Jesus gently calls us to something different. He invites us to come to Him, to lay down our burdens, and to find rest—not just physical rest, but deep, soul-refreshing peace that can only be found in His presence. He does not ask us to fix everything or to carry the weight of problems beyond our control. Instead, He asks us to trust Him, to let go of our need to understand everything, and to surrender our worries at His feet.

When we shift our focus from the chaos of the world to the sovereignty of God, we begin to experience the rest He promises. His rest is not dependent on circumstances; it is not found in the perfect government, the right leaders, or worldly security. It is found in knowing that He reigns above it all. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and nothing—no election, no policy, no division—can change His love for us or His control over history.

So, take a deep breath. Step away from the noise for a moment. Instead of scrolling through another news update or engaging in another debate, spend time with the One who holds all things together. Let His peace wash over you. Let His presence be your refuge.

Jesus, I come to You, weary and burdened. The weight of this world is too much for me to carry, and I know I was never meant to bear it alone. I lay my worries at Your feet—every fear, every uncertainty, every anxious thought. Fill me with Your peace, the peace that surpasses understanding. Help me to trust You more deeply, to rest in Your promises, and to find refuge in Your presence. Remind me that no matter what happens in this world, I am safe in Your hands. Amen.
