Ephesians 4:2-3
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace."
Marriage is a beautiful union, but it is also a journey of learning, growing, and, most of all, compromise. Love isn’t just the grand gestures or the sweet words—it’s found in the quiet moments of choosing each other, again and again, even when it’s hard.
I remember a time early in my marriage when my spouse and I had a disagreement that left both of us feeling unheard. It wasn’t about anything earth-shattering—just a difference in opinion on how we should handle a situation. But at that moment, my pride took over. I wanted to be right. I wanted my perspective to be validated. And so did my spouse.
The silent tension stretched into the next day until God spoke to my heart: Love is not about winning. It’s about unity. I realized that my desire to be right was costing me peace in my marriage. I had been so focused on proving my point that I forgot the most important thing—our love was more valuable than the argument.
So, I humbled myself. I reached out first, even when my pride resisted. Instead of insisting on my way, I listened. Instead of assuming I was right, I tried to understand. And something beautiful happened—my spouse did the same. We met in the middle, not because one of us had won, but because we had chosen each other over the need to be right.
Marriage is built not on perfection, but on grace. It thrives not on stubbornness, but on surrender. Love isn’t about keeping score or proving a point—it’s about sacrificing pride, extending patience, and embracing humility.
Compromise doesn’t mean losing—it means learning how to walk together, even when the road isn’t smooth. It means choosing unity over division, love over ego, and understanding over assumptions.
If you find yourself in a season of struggle in your marriage, ask yourself: Am I fighting for myself, or am I fighting for us? Remember, love is not about winning a battle—it’s about building a life together.
Lord, teach me to love selflessly in my marriage. Give me a heart that listens, a spirit that seeks peace, and the humility to compromise. Help me to choose unity over pride, love over stubbornness, and grace over frustration. May my marriage reflect Your unconditional love. Amen.
