9 February 2025: Worth

By Pat Allchorne

Luke 12:6-7
"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."

During lockdown, I rediscovered my love for jigsaw puzzles. I would spend hours carefully placing each piece, watching the image slowly come to life. But nothing was more frustrating than reaching the end and realizing a piece was missing. The whole picture, no matter how beautiful, felt incomplete.

I was reminded of a sermon I once heard about embroidery. The preacher spoke of how even the smallest, darkest stitches—ones barely noticeable—were essential. If even one stitch was skipped, the design would be incomplete. I used to embroider during quiet moments at work, and I knew this to be true.

Sometimes, we might feel like one of those unnoticed stitches or a tiny puzzle piece—unimportant, easily overlooked. Some of us thrive in the spotlight, while others prefer to work quietly in the background. But God sees every single one of us. He knows our names, our struggles, our victories, even the number of hairs on our heads. We are not forgotten. We are essential.

You are a vital piece in God’s masterpiece. Without you, something would be missing. No matter how small or unseen you feel, you are deeply loved, deeply known, and incredibly valuable.

Lord, thank You for seeing me, for knowing me, and for valuing me. Help me to remember that I am a part of Your great plan. Amen.
