Editorial Update: Can You See the Next Step
Share
Some days, life feels like walking through a thick fog—you can’t see what’s ahead, and the uncertainty is terrifying. You try to make sense of everything, but the more you think, the heavier it all feels. It’s overwhelming. And when you scroll through social media, it only gets worse. The world looks like it’s falling apart—bad news, negativity, pain everywhere you turn. It’s easy to feel small in the face of it all, to wonder, What’s the point? How do I keep going when everything feels so heavy?
Maybe you’ve been carrying silent struggles—grief, anxiety, exhaustion, heartbreak—things no one else can see. Maybe you’re standing at a crossroads, unsure of what to do next. Or maybe you’re just tired. So, so tired.
And then comes the question that keeps replaying in your mind: How do I move forward when I can’t even see the way?
That’s where the wisdom of the horse from The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse speaks to the heart.
"I can't see a way through," said the boy.
"Can you see your next step?"
"Yes."
"Just take that," said the horse.
Not the entire journey. Not the whole solution. Just the next step.
That’s it.
And maybe that next step is something small—getting out of bed, making a cup of tea, replying to that message, stepping outside for fresh air, drinking a glass of water, or simply breathing through the moment. Maybe it’s resting. Maybe it’s allowing yourself to cry. Maybe it’s reaching out for help.
The path ahead might not be clear right now, but that doesn’t mean you’re lost. Even if you can’t see the full picture, trust that one small step at a time is enough.
Because the truth is, you don’t have to have it all figured out today. You don’t need to solve everything at once. You just need to keep moving forward, little by little, even if it’s slower than you’d like.
And if today all you can do is take one small step, that’s more than enough.
You are not alone in this. You are doing better than you think. Keep going.
