Cleaning Your Kitchen the Natural Way

Kitchens. A place we go to make yummy things, but also a place where we make a mess. Let's clean it.

What follows are some tips and tricks to clean lots of things using natural stuff you likely have lying around. Good to save money, yes?

Rub salt on a stained chopping board then rub a lemon on it. Leave overnight, then wash it.

Dirty fridge shelves? Place kitchen roll on them. Once they are dirty, remove and replace.

Dirty microwave. Place a container of water (half filled) several tblsps of vinegar or half a lemon and set to full power. Leave on until it is steamy inside. Wait 15 mins. Open the door, remove, and wipe.

Smelly dishwasher (poo!). Couple of tsps of bicarb on the floor of it. Quick empty wash. Leave to air dry.

Smelly fridge. Open ramekin of bicarb does the trick here, so, too, does half an onion uncovered (not in the veg tray).

Descaling a kettle. Fill halfway. Switch off just before boiling. Fill to the ¾ level with distilled vinegar. Leave overnight. Empty it, refill, boil it again, empty it, and it's good to go.

Burnt pans. Simply fill with water and put back on the stove, and bring to the boil. Allow a good 20 mins to simmer. With very bad stains add a dishwasher tablet.

Dull copper pans. Rub ketchup all over it with a kitchen towel, then clean.

Dull handles. Use distilled vinegar on them, and buff them up. Lemon juice would also work.

Dirty oven. 115g baking soda and enough water to make a paste. Smear it over the dirty parts and wipe off the next morning. Still dirty, add white vinegar to the paste to make a foam, and wipe on.

Dull stainless steel. Small amount of olive oil on a rag and rub to a shine.

I am not just about recipes and techniques y'know.
