Cast Iron Pan

Cast iron pans are awesome. Robust, can withstand anything you can throw at them (including throwing them - not that you should), but they do require love,  just like you and I. So let's show them some, yes?

Whether it's brand new or old and battered, it matters not, you love your cast iron pan, and it will love you.

It's all about seasoning.

If you get a new one or find an old one that has been forgotten, the same applies.

Wash your cast iron pan well. Scrub it. Rinse it. But never do it again. Ever. Ever.

No matter how dry you think it is, it isn't, so stick it in the oven and heat it up. After a couple of minutes, pour a little oil in it and swirl it around, then wipe it out. Put back in the oven for thirty minutes, and remove. Repeat this three more times.

Your pan is now seasoned. Basically what you have done is polymerization where you bond the oil to the iron.

Repeat this process as soon as your pan tell you to (it will).

Love your pan, and it will love you back unconditionally.

(This does not work for Tefal, steel, etc, so don't bother)
